Pearl Zane Grey

Escritor estadounidense



Nació el 31 de enero de 1872 en Zanesville (Ohio).

Fue el cuarto de los cinco hijos de Alice Josephine Zane y su marido, Lewis M. Gray, un dentista.

Creció en Zanesville, una ciudad fundada por su bisabuelo materno Ebenezer Zane y desde muy temprana edad, estuvo interesado por la historia.

Sus tres primeras novelas relatan el heroísmo de los antepasados que lucharon en la guerra revolucionaria americana.

Se graduó en el año 1896 en la Universidad de Pensilvania como dentista, profesión que ejerció en Nueva York entre 1898 y 1904, época en que empezó a escribir.

Autor de cerca de sesenta libros, la mayoría de ellos de aventuras ambientadas en el Oeste, de los que vendió más de quince millones de ejemplares en vida, llegando a ser el escritor de Estados Unidos más famoso en los años posteriores a la I Guerra Mundial.

Riders of the Purple Sage (1912) fue su título de mayores ventas.


Además del éxito comercial de sus obras impresas, tuvieron mucha influencia , tras su adaptación como películas y programas de televisión. Sus novelas y cuentos fueron adaptados en más de cien películas.

Zane Grey falleció el 28 de octubre de 1939 en Altadena, California.
