Irving Pichel

Director estadounidense



Nació el 24 de junio de 1891 en Pittsburgh (Estados Unidos).

Sus inicios fueron como actor de teatro, más tarde empleado en el departamento de guiones de la MGM (1927) y actor de cine que interpreta a Stalin en El agente británico (Michael Curtiz, 1934).

También actúa, el mismo año en la película Cleopatra de Cecil B. De Mille, en el papel de Apollodorus.

Se inicia en la realización con Ernest Schoedsack con El malvado Zaroff (The Most Dangerous Game, 1932).

Firma ya en solitario algunas obras de presupuesto escaso, principalmente melodramas, para la Republic y otras compañías como: Mañana es vivir (Tomorrow is for Ever, 1946, con Orson Welles y Claudette Colbert); El milagro de las campanas (Miracle of the Bells, 1948), O.S.S. (1946) yCon destino a la luna (Destination Moon, 1950).

Realizador con prestigio que sufrió algunos problemas por el maccartismo. Una de sus últimas películas fue una biografía, Martin Luther (1953).

Irving Pichel falleció en Los Angeles el 13 de julio de 1954.
