Rumer Godden

Escritora británica




Nació el 10 de diciembre de 1907, en Sussex (Gran Bretaña).

Cuando tenía un par de años viajó a la India donde su padre trabajaba para una compañía naviera.

Dos bajo el sol indio (1966), libro que escribió con su hermana mayor, describe esta época. Aprendió baile, interés que aparece reflejado en Hijos de Jueves (1984), Escucha al ruiseñor (1992), Narciso negro (1948) y Pippa Passes (1994), su última obra.

En Los martines pescadores cazan fuego (1953) trata sobre su experiencia en las montañas del Himalaya, donde vivió en circunstancias difíciles con sus dos hijas tras ser abandonada por su primer marido, Laurence Foster.

Entre el resto de sus novelas destacan: Flores entre ruinas (1958), La batalla de Villa Fiorita (1963) y En esta casa de clausura (1969).

Sus libros infantiles, La primavera del pavo real (1975), Flores entre ruinas y La casa de muñecas (1947) refleja las complejidades del mundo adulto. El Diddakoi, libro infantil sobre los gitanos, ganó en 1972 el Premio Whitbread.

Rumer Godden falleció en Dumfriesshire, Reino Unido, el 8 de noviembre de 1998.<
