Pianista de jazz canadiense






Nació el 15 de agosto de 1925 en Montreal, Quebec.

Comenzó a tocar el piano a los 5 años.

En 1949 se traslada a los Estados Unidos para actuar en un concierto en el Carnegie Hall y realizar dos giras con la orquesta de Granz Jazz at the Philarmonic.

En 1953 fundó un trío con el bajo Ray Brown y el guitarrista Herb Ellis. En 1959, Ellis dejó el trío para ser sustituido por el percusionista Ed Thigpen y en 1965 se disolvió definitivamente.

Entre 1967 y 1972 grabó para la compañía de discos alemana MPS una serie de 15 álbumes que incluían algunas grabaciones solistas de piano consideradas por muchos como su obra cumbre.

A mediados de la década de 1970, colabora con el contrabajo danés Neils-Henning Orsted Pederson y en algunas ocasiones formaron un trío con el guitarrista estadounidense Joe Pass.

Obtuvo siete premios Grammy (1974, 1975, 1978, 1979, dos en 1990 y 1991).

Oscar Peterson falleció en Mississauga el 23 de diciembre de 2007.
