Adolphe Menjou

Actor estadounidense



Nació el 18 de febrero de 1890 en Pittsburgh (Estados Unidos).

Cursó estudios en la Academia Militar Culver y en la Universidad de Cornell.

Debutó en el cine en el año 1916, tras recibir una educación teatral. Encarnó papeles secundarios de seductor o de traidor hasta 1923.

Fue en ese año cuando formó pareja con Pola Negri en La bailarina española (The Spanish Dancer, H. Brenon), trabajó en Una mujer de París de Charles Chaplin. Después aparece en La frivolidad de una dama. Malcom St-Clair le contrata para La gran duquesa y el camarero (The Great Duchess and the Waiter, 1926) y Harry d'Abbadie d'Arrast en Serenata (1927).

Con la llegada del cine sonoro trabaja en Un gran reportaje por el que fue nominado al Oscar en la categoría de mejor actor principal (The Front Page, L. Milestone, 1931) donde encarnó a un periodista, en Adiós a las armas (F. Borzage, 1932) fue un oficial italiano y en Amor prohibido (Frank Capra, 1932) un arribista.

Se casó con la actriz Verree Teasdale, compañera en "La vía láctea" (1936) y "Matrimonio al revés" (1940). Participó activamente en la Caza de Brujas del senador McCarthy.

Adolphe Menjou falleció el 29 de octubre de 1963 en Beverly Hills.
