Fue jugador profesional de béisbol, y jugó en los Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Dodgers y Chicago Cubs.
Connors aparece en los años cincuenta en la gran pantalla debutando en South Sea Woman, junto a Burt Lancaster y Virginia Mayo.
Protagonizó varias películas de serie B y participó en westerns. Protagoniza Flipper, largometraje que dio lugar a una serie de televisión muy popular, cuyo protagonista "animal" era un delfín.
