Peter Cushing

Actor británico



Nació el 26 de mayo de 1913 en Kenley (Inglaterra).

Trabajó en teatro, televisión y cine, sobre todo en los géneros fantástico y de terror.

Apareció interpretando papeles de héroe que se enfrenta al monstruo. A finales de los años 50 rodó muchas películas para los estudios Hammer, a menudo como oponente de Christopher Lee.

Debutó como actor a finales de los años treinta en el teatro de repertorio británico. En 1939 se mudó a Hollywood, donde intervino en La máscara de hierro (1939, James Whale) y en Estudiantes en Oxford (1940, Alfred Goulding) con Stan Laurel y Oliver Hardy. Durante los años cuarenta retomó obras de teatro en Inglaterra. En 1954 destacó y fue muy alagado por su papel del héroe Winston en una adaptación televisiva para la BBC de la novela de George Orwell1984.

Famoso por sus diferentes interpretaciones para la Hammer Films, como el barón de Frankenstein en La maldición de Frankenstein (1957, Terence Fisher); el cazador de vampiros Van Helsing en Drácula (1958, T. Fisher), con Christopher Lee como protagonista; y el detective Sherlock Holmes en El perro de los Baskerville (1959, T. Fisher), un papel que volvería a interpretar en múltiples ocasiones.

Peter Cushing falleció el 11 de agosto de 1994 en Canterbury, Inglaterra.
