Actor estadounidense



Nació el 3 se septiembre de 1913 en Hot Springs, Ark. Estados Unidos.

Comenzó a interpretar en la escuela desde donde pasó a la Universidad, alternando su trabajo en esta con el periodismo durante la época de la Depresión.

Realizó las más diversas actividades, incluida la de vendedor de perritos calientes, antes de entrar en el mundo del cine. Sus inicios fueron como extra.

Saltó a la fama por su actuación en dos películas de piratas Señores del mar (F. Lloyd, 1939) y El Capitán Cautela (Richard Wallace, 1940).

En 1942 interpretó El cuervo (F. Tuttle) junto a Verónica Lake, que se convertiría en su pareja habitual.

Ladd fue, junto con Tyrone Power, uno de los pocos actores que desarrollaron su carrera durante la guerra.

Ofrecía una imagen a la vez cínica y frágil, que contrastaba con la acidez de Verónica Lake.


Se recuerdan sus trabajos sobre todo en el cine negro, como La llave de cristal (S. Heisler, 1942) o La dalia azul (G. Marshall, 1946). Interpretó también The Great Gatsby (E. Nugent, 1949).

En sus películas del Oeste, dio una muestra de magníficas interpretaciones en Raíces profundas (G. Stevens, 1953) y en Drum Beat (D. Daves, 1954). Su última película fue también su último gran papel: el de ajado ídolo del western en Los insaciables (Edward Dmytryk, 1944).

Alan Ladd falleció en Palm Springs, California, el 29 de enero de 1964 de un edema cerebral, un final que se vería acelerado por su adicción al alcohol y a los fármacos.
