Yves Tanguy

Pintor estadounidense de origen francés



Nació el 5 de enero de 1900 en París (Francia).

De formación autodidacta, tras la I Guerra Mundial fue oficial en la marina mercante francesa.

Regresó a París y cuando conoció las obras del pintor Giorgio de Chirico, uno de los fundadores del movimiento surrealista, lo llevaron a unirse al grupo en 1925.

Sus obras con huesos ordenados en paisajes imaginarios obtuvieron reconocimiento.

Inició la creación de lienzos de gran formato y posteriormente pintó cuadros de complejas composiciones, como es el caso de La multiplicación de los arcos.

Entre sus obras más destacadas se hallan: ¡Mamá, papá está herido! (1927, Museo de Arte Moderno, Nueva York), Días perezosos (1937, Museo Nacional de Arte Moderno, París), Palacio en las rocas de las ventanas (1942, Museo Nacional de Arte Moderno, París) y Multiplicación de las artes (1954, Museo de Arte Moderno, Nueva York) entre otras. Gran parte de sus obras se hallan en los museos de Arte Moderno de Nueva York y París.

En 1939 emigró a Estados Unidos donde vivió el resto de su vida, un año después se casó con la pintora surrealista Sage de Kay, con lo cual adquiere la ciudadanía norteamericana en 1948.


Yves Tanguy falleció en Woodbury el 15 de enero de 1955.
