Robert Bushnell Ryan

Actor estadounidense



Nació el 11 de noviembre de 1909 en Chicago.

Con un físico impresionante, fue discípulo de Max Reinhardt y estudió con Stanislavski.

Interpretó a Shakespeare en el festival de Stratford-sur-Avon y a Pirandello y Brecht en Broadway.

En 1959 fundó el Theatre Group de la Universidad de California.

Para el cine encarnó a canallas, perversos o cínicos. Debutó con Edward Dmytryk con Golden Gloves (1940), el mismo director que lo dirigió en Encrucijada de odios (1947), que volvería a interpretar doce años más tarde en Odds Against Tomorrow (Robert  Wise, 1959).

Jean Renoir le llamó para trabajar en La mujer en la playa (1947) y en The set up (Nadie puede vencerme, Wise, 1949) encarna a el boxeador íntegro, sin duda su mejor papel. Siguió con On dangeroux ground (La casa en las sombras, Nicholas Ray, 1952),Clash by Night (Fritz Lang, id.) y Los profesionales (Richard Brooks, 1966).

Además trabajó con Cecil B. De Mille, Jacques Tourneur, Joseph Losey, Max Ophuls, Budd Boetticher, Anthony Mann, Allan Dwan, Samuel Fuller y Raoul Walsh entre otros.


Robert Ryan falleció el 11 de julio de 1973 en Nueva York.
